Samsung launched its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones earlier this month and along with them, introduced its AI-based Bixby assistant that helps users features like with image recognition and location awareness among other things. It can be accessed with the help of a dedicated button. Now, it turns out that there is a way to customise this key to launch any app of user's choice. Separately, the company has also made its wireless charging stand for the phone available for purchase.
Talking first about the workaround to customise the dedicated button on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ for Bixby, Reddit user Home123 was able to make it work with help from an app called All in one Gestures, XDA Developers pointed out in a report. The process requires users to grant the application, available for free on Google Play, access to modify system settings. This is followed by a set of instructions that you can find on the original post.
Even though process is not extremely complex, it does require the users to toggle certain settings in the accessibility section. With the help of this, users can choose to launch Google Assistant, which currently holds a superior hand due to support for many more languages than Bixby, with the dedicated button for Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+.
Moving on to the charging accessory, the South Korean company has now made its 'Samsung Fast Charge Wireless Charging Convertible Stand W/ AFC Wall Charger' for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ available for purchase at a price of $89.99 (roughly Rs. 5,800) from Amazon. The charging accessory will start shipping from April 20 and comes in black and tan colours. Apart from acting as a charging station, the stand can also help users keep their smartphone at specific angles, as per their requirement.
